Attorney General Lisa Madigan announces a new partnership with the Illinois State Alliance of YMCAs to expand the reach of Internet safety education to include Y-Kids around the state. During a news conference at the Lake View YMCA on Chicago’s North Side, Madigan joined by, Laura Sova, executive director of the Lake View YMCA (not pictured), Cherita Ellens, senior marketing director YMCA Metropolitan Chicago and Rick Reigner, chief executive officer of Elgin YMCA. The newly-created E.Y.E.S. Partnership - Educate Youth, Encourage Safety is a series of Internet safety “train the trainer” sessions for YMCA employees working with children. Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Rufus Williams, Chicago Public Schools Board President, look on as Mario Rodriguez, a 5th grade student at Chicago’s Drummond Elementary School, uses the Internet. Madigan, Williams and area lawmakers were at the school to announce two important tools that will help parents and educators monitor how children use the Internet. For more information, click here.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan stands with Michael Sullivan, left, deputy bureau chief of her High Tech Crimes Bureau and who helps lead the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (I-CAC), and Ernie Allen, President and CEO of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) following a roundtable discussion about "Project Safe Childhood," a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse. The program brings together federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. The event was hosted in Chicago by U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald and U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

February 22, 2007 Attorney General Lisa Madigan speaks to
parents at New Trier High School’s Northfield Campus prior to the start
of an internet safety presentation delivered by Michael Sullivan,
deputy chief of her High Tech Crimes Bureau. Later, Sullivan
answers a question from a parent to keep their children’s online
activity safe. The event was sponsored by the New
Trier Parent Association’s
(NTPA) Class of 2009. Sullivan is a 27-year veteran of law enforcement
and a leading expert on Internet crime, spearheads the Illinois
Internet Crimes Against Children (I-CAC) program and conducts trainings for
law enforcement, educators, parents and children throughout Illinois.
